After Teton Rock Gym informed families that staff did not have the capacity to support kids participating in the 2025 USA Climbing spring rope competitions, several parents arranged for rope training on six Saturdays in February and April at the Jackson Recreation Center with the help of a local climber.
When staff heard about these extra training opportunities for the comp kids they called the Recreation Center in Jackson and asked them not to allow these kids to train. They also cold-called the local climber and pressured him not to help the kids. Then staff discussed the situation with all of the advanced team kids at practice without informing the parents. The children reported being very uncomfortable with the conversation.

A group of eleven parents reported this staff misconduct, and subsequently met with the Teton Rock Gym Board of Directors to discuss the situation. Staff chose not to attend.
No accountability or resolution was ever offered from staff or the board, despite several attempts from parents to continue the discussion.
Instead, staff introduced a “parent" handbook for youth programming. Several children decided not to continue with Teton Rock Gym team programs and parents stepped in to help facilitate their training.
Staff then changed gym membership policies to prohibit kids under 14 years old from the fitness area, explicitly ban instruction in the gym by anyone besides staff, and granting staff unilateral authority to revoke memberships at anytime for any reason without a refund.
